A pregnant mum who was given the devastating news that she had just 24 hours to live is fighting to give birth.

Carrie Dodds, 40, from Blackpool, was diagnosed with Myeloid Leukaemia on June 26, and she has already lived ‘against all odds’ for another month.

She is currently 25 weeks pregnant and is determined to stay alive for as long as possible to give her unborn child the best chance of survival.

Carrie already has five children, and as well as giving birth to her sixth, she wants to use the time she has left to marry her partner Shaun, as reported by Lancashire Live.

The plan is to induce Carrie when she is 32 weeks pregnant so that her unborn daughter can receive stem sell treatment because of her condition.

Carrie is set to marry the man she described as the love of her life on September 2 at the The Wedding Chapel on Blackpool promenade.

Recounting the events that led to her leukaemia diagnosis, she said that she had been wrongly misdiagnosed multiple times after a C-section.

She explained: “It had attacked my body so quick, my white blood cells were at 198, so I had to have chemotherapy and a blood wash. Once I had that, [the doctor] said I could have a future and that’s when I started to pick up,” she explained.

Carrie has had to spend the past six weeks of her live going in and out of hospital, and she is currently having daily rounds of therapy.

She said: “I’ve got eight days of chemo, and then I’ll go to Manchester for the bone marrow at the end.

“I think I’ve got three or four rounds of chemo and I’ve got to have my baby at 32 weeks because I can’t have the stem cell treatment while I’m pregnant because it’s dangerous to her.”

A fundraiser was then set up to help put together Carrie’s wedding in dire circumstances and to ensure that she feels like a ‘princess’ on the big day itself.

Carrie said before her wedding date was confirmed: “Honestly, we appreciate any help we can get as the Wedding Chapel is going to get us married as soon as possible as I don’t know how far or how long I’m going to get in the treatment.

“They told me I had 24 hours to live and here I am against all the odds.

“I don’t know how far I will get but here is hoping I beat this awful disease, my dream and wish, with me having very little family and no mum and dad, is to marry my soul mate, my best friend, my rock and life partner.

“I have five other children as well who are helping us along the way to make my dream come true.”

Carrie is now over the moon that her dreams will come true if she keeps on fighting, and she has vowed to, describing herself as a ‘warrior’.
