Based on the Christopher Pike 1994 book of the same name, is set inside a hospice for terminally ill teenagers, where members of an exclusive club make a chilling pact with one another – agreeing that the first person to die must send a sign from beyond the grave. 

A synopsis from Netflix says: “To those before. To those after. To us now. And to those beyond. Seen or unseen. Here but not here.

It stars Iman Benson, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Annarah Cymone, Chris Sumpter, Adia, Aya Furukawa, Sauriyan Sapkota, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, Zach Gilford and Heather Langenkamp, with first look photos released in August showing the cast sporting their finest 90s gear.

Taking inspiration from a number of Christopher Pike stories, including and , the 10-part series was created by Leah Fong and maestro Mike Flanagan – who, it turns out, was an early fan of the novelist. 

Speaking to Vanity Fair, he recalled: “ was a particular shock to me as a teenager because I thought I was getting this pulpy little YA novella that would be about a spooky Grim Reaper or something.

“But no, it was about teenagers having to reconcile with terminal diseases and with death. And it didn’t pull its punches there either. It was a real lesson in how you could use genre to talk about very serious things. 

“This is before I’d kind of graduated to Stephen King. I was coming right off of John Bellairs [] and R.L. Stine [the  series]. And so this really blew my hair back.”
